Company’s comin’

In addition to the typical post-harvest clean-up, we are making special effort to get the farm ‘presentable’.  We have guests coming this evening.  Class 15 of the Indiana Ag Leadership Program (ALP) is having one of their 3-day seminars here in southwest Indiana, and they are scheduled to come here for dinner in our shop.  (Dennis was a member of class 7, all those  years ago)  This leadership training is the main focus of the AgrIInstitute, based in Danville, Indiana.  There are 30 members of the class, and with invited local guests, there will likely be about 50 people in the crowd.  After the dinner, Susan Brocksmith will be presenting information about Vincennes University and the Ag Technology program there.  Before the group departs, we hope to give them a tour around the farmstead.  Brandon will also be available to show Ross’ horse facilities and explain about those activities.  We are honored to be selected to be on the ALP program.   If the weather is anything like last evening’s, it will be perfect for an outdoor event!

Pretty routine stuff, but after Ben washed down the entire structure of the dryer, John washes the concrete underneath.

The planting of double-crop soybeans (DCB) was finished last night.  We cannot clean and put away the tractor and planter just yet, for it may be possible to do some replanting of soybean acres killed in June’s minor flood.   We will wait until about the 20th or so to see if those areas dry sufficiently to go back there.  The weather forecast is finally showing some dry and warm days.  Maybe by the end of the forecast period of 10 days, we will be asking for some rain!
