Coming soon…. harvest

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

I’ve had a bit of a lengthy absence from the website recently, for Pat and I have taken a couple weeks’ trip to celebrate our 35th anniversary.  We had some great times in southern California, Hawaii, and Oregon.  We went to Disneyland, saw Pat’s brother Ray and his family, enjoyed Disney’s Aulani resort on Oahu, and spent an extended weekend with Philip in Portland.  Every day went fast, and it was a great pleasure.

While we were away, the guys finished the preparation of machines for fall harvest.

John and Ben work to prepare the JD 9770 combine for corn harvest. The header controls needed to be recalibrated to work properly.

Ross is eager to go to the Cresy farm today to harvest some corn.  I would prefer we wait until Monday the 16th, but the corn may start coming in this afternoon!  I certainly hope the moisture content is closer to 23% than 30%.  If below 25%, I’ll feel okay about it.  If it’s near 30%, that will make the drying a little more complicated.  We will see what comes in.

The bush-hog should run a little bit this afternoon.  And there is an old friend from college days coming by this afternoon for a visit.

Don’t forget this important anniversary:  9-11.  Can you remember what you were doing that day?  We certainly can.  We were harvesting corn at the Harry farm… and it could not have been a more beautiful blue-sky day.  But even more than the weather, let us remember our fellow Americans who met their Maker that day.
