Late last night, we were able to finish harvesting corn at the flat field at the Dunn farm.  Ross had a hydraulic leak on the 8120, so we went up there with the 9770.  As I listened to the forecast, it sounded like rain was coming.  We decided to stick with it and try to get Dunn done– a rain would cause difficulties with placing trucks in the field.  The last rows disappeared into the corn head at 1130 pm.  We then moved home.  There is a video of the nighttime harvesting work loaded up to YouTube.  Just click on the YouTube button at the upper right of this page.

Working at night is not an unusual thing during harvest.

We also have a visitor for the weekend.  Pat Orlik, a friend of Ben’s from his Purdue days is here.  Pat hails from Chicagoland, and he works in a tree service business there.  We enjoy having guests at the farm, and sharing our experience with friends.  He arrived late last night, just as we were getting in from the field.  Welcome, Pat!

Pat Orlik (L) and Ben became friends during their days at Purdue. We are happy Pat came for the weekend.

The rain began earlier than expected this morning.  John is shutting down the dryer and after fueling up the 9770, it’s going back in the shed instead of to the field.

It’s nice that we have a shop that will accommodate a combine.  We hope to get the 8120 going again while it’s raining.  It’ll be ready to go when the fields dry again.

I hope Patricia Ann was able to get the guest room sorted out! Being over your way the other day made me really miss “the good ol’ days” Your reference to nighttime farming brought back memories too.
