Getting close…

Friday night, October 18, 2013

Even though we were a bit short on truck drivers today, and we started the day with a nearly-full wet bin, we were able to make our goal… we finished Huey and Commer corn fields.  This means all our corn in the White River bottom land is done.  And, we have only one corn field left to harvest… about 50 acres at Waldo.

Pat's cousin Savannah Dixon, Winslow, Indiana came by the Huey farm yesterday and snapped some action pictures of the corn harvest. Thanks, Savannah!

We may not get that last field done tomorrow as we hoped early in the week… rain is predicted for the wee hours of the morning.  We will see what happens.

The CIH 8120 and JD 9770 combines performed well today.  The corn in the grain tank looks really good.  And  shush-shush-shush sound of the grain being processed inside the combine is a good sound.  The corn has a moisture content of about 18%.  We had a few days this week when we could put corn directly from field to storage, but today, the corn had to go into the dryer.

The other problem (and it’s a good problem!) is that we are running out of room in our storage bins.  What a difference a year makes… we certainly had plenty of bin space for the harvest of ’12!

G’night.

Go Cardinals… looking good right now!
