We were notified by CPS yesterday afternoon that the final bit of the P & K for 2014 corn has been applied. This clicks off an important task from the list of things to do. The only fertility need that will come later is the application of the nitrogen, which will be done a week or two ahead of the corn planter.
We do have a number of other tasks that need attention, including the clearing of a woods at the Burke farm. The mature trees have been cut and the logs sold, making those 11 acres ready for Shepard Construction to clear it and shape it for planting some corn there in the spring. We will also have some drainage tile installed there to improve productivity.
Corn continues to be sent to market. We will be able to put a sweep in our bin #9 tomorrow and clean it out.
Ross and Brandon went to JL Farm Equipment in Poseyville, Indiana today to see the new 8230 combine, and sign the papers. It should be delivered next week.
It’s always an exciting thing to get a new machine!
Have a good weekend.
