Say ‘cheese’, v. 1.1

Tuesday, December 3, 2013

The crew from Swanson Russell of Nebraska has returned.  This time, Ashley, Geoff, and Cameron are staging a video shoot in the shop.  Their purpose is to conduct a couple ‘interviews’ of us speaking about our experience with propane.  This is commissioned by the Propane Education and Research Council (PERC).  They will use the information for advertising, training, and promotion.  This media presentation may appear in trade shows, the PERC website, or at events like the “Commodity Classic“.  PERC sponsored a grant that assisted our purchase of our larger and more efficient new grain dryer.  This media work is in response to that grant.  We appreciate PERC’s assistance.

This is not a typical ‘day on the farm’.  It’s interesting to see the technical side of what this trio is doing.  Special lights, halogen or LED or fluorescent, are set up in specific ways to achieve the ‘look’ they prefer.  We brought in the little JD tractor (7130) for a backdrop, and it has lighting applied underneath and behind it.  They are not using the overhead fluorescent shop lighting.  The shop has been temporarily transformed into a studio!

John and I both sat for the interview part.  Ashley asked the pertinent questions, and Geoff and Cameron were busy capturing the video and audio.  We had to take an occasional pause, in order to load a truck with grain.   The noise of the truck’s movements were not to be heard in the recorded soundtrack.

I guess one of the most fascinating things for me was Geoff’s use of that Hollywood-style little board… you know the one where the director says, “Scene one, take one…” and then he takes the “slate” and makes that loud slap sound.   It really happened here today… multiple times!

Here, Ashley helps John prepare for the next 'take'.

And during all this, the farm work continued as Brandon loaded trucks to go to market.  We are sending some soybeans out today, in addition to the 3 loads of corn for GPC.

Thanks to Ashley, Cameron, and Geoff for an interesting day.
