Really windy

Friday, March 14, 2014

The wind is really stiff out there!  If it’s not nailed down this afternoon, it’s gonna blow away… We had hoped to sprinkle some fescue seed on the levee at Burke, but that will have to wait.  Instead, we are doing some set-up work with the GPS and GreenStar information systems in the JD 9360R tractor.  We have been attempting the initialization of the 2-way communication system between this office computer and the GreenStar screen.  It’s called JD Link.  We are not certain it is working yet.  We can see the correct information in the office computer’s part of the JD Link software, but we are not seeing it transferred to the tractor… just yet.  We will be working on this early next week, so that when we actually go to the field, the lines of communication will be open.

With the JD 2510H applicator unfolded to its full 60-foot width, we are trying to get the attached 9360R tractor to communicate wirelessly with the office computer.

Brandon has also worked in the office today to create planting prescriptions for the soybean planter.  We have been planting soybeans by prescription for many years now, but this is the 2nd year for Brandon to be making the entries in the JD Apex software.  He is creating the special maps that control the planting population for the air drill.  To see more about this task, see the post for March 14, 2013

We saw a little glimpse of spring this morning, as some of the tulips are peeking through the mulch near the house!

The first indication that spring is coming! Brave little tulip are emerging today.
