The West Fork of White River is going down. The latest crest got up to 21+ feet at Edwardsport, which is about 1 day’s flow of the river ahead of our fields near US 50.
The areas that have been killed by flooding will remain untouched by us for the remainder of the summer. It’s just too late to replant now. We will go in these fields in the fall to harvest what survived.
Here is today’s river forecast at Edwardsport.
Those areas that have been damaged may qualify for a crop insurance claim. We will just have to wait and see what the final damage will be.
Commodity prices are ticking upward in response to the widespread flood conditions across the Midwest. That’s a hopeful sign, too.
Have a good weekend. The temperatures this week have been very pleasant compared to a typical July. The 63F (17C) this morning was very comfortable!
