Not in the shop today

Wednesday, March 2, 2016

We are working outside today to perform some repairs to the JD 1890 NT air drill.  Of the 60 row units, 26 need the gauge wheels to be re-built.  Four needed completely replaced– tire, bearing, and wheel halves.  The other 22 have a tire that can be kept, but the bearing and wheel halves will be swapped out.  It’s a bit of a tedious job to take apart and reassemble the gauge wheels, and that we can do inside.  But the drill sits outdoors today, for it’s too big for our shop–we can’t unfold it inside.  So, we remove gauge wheels out there, bring them in for repair, and then go back out there to reinstall.

This job may get put on ‘pause’ tomorrow, because rain is predicted.
