Rain Amounts and a Special Race

Tuesday, August 2, 2016

When the rainfall report came this morning from Climate Corporation, we learned that yesterday morning’s rain was quite variable.  It ranged from 1.5″ (38mm) at the Lett and Watjen farms, down to .4″ (10mm) at the Freddie farm.  Any day there is a rain event on any of our fields, we receive an email the next morning from Climate to let us know the location and the amount.

Saw some unusual stuff on Sunday–solar-powered cars!  When I saw some of these cars on US 50 on Sunday, I thought . “What’s going on?”  I learned that there is a solar-powered car race going on this week, and it was set up to  come through Vincennes.  This race has some connection also to National Parks of the Midwest.  There are teams from 19 universities across the US and Canada competing.  There was a feature story on their Vincennes stop in this morning’s newspaper.  I got  some other information about it from a my friend Stan who lives in California.  This race is called the 2016 American Solar Challenge.

Quite a caravan to accompany this solar car.

Looks like something out of the Jetsons... which was one of my favorite shows as a kid.

According to the newspaper report, the 19 teams overnighted in Vincennes at our George Rogers Clark National Historical Park.   I understand they made quite a sight displayed across the lawn in front of the memorial.  This is certainly not something you see everyday in southwest Indiana!
